Sheath folds in mylonitic marble

Folds Foliations Metamorphic rocks Shear zones

Sheath folds related to Late Miocene shearing in the Calanchiole Marble, within the Calamita Unit. This is a N-S oriented outcrop, perpendicular to the E-W trending lineation and shows ellipse-like sections through these strongly non-cylindrical folds.

The field of view is approximately 2 – 3 m.
